A man is on the run, possibly barefoot, after an armed police raid in Northland on Thursday morning.

Police are looking for Mark Andrew Fletcher, 39, who fled from a house near Hukerenui, 30 kilometres north of Whangarei, at around 9am.

He's wanted for breaching his Court release conditions, and for an alleged domestic-related assault.

Police were armed as they were informed of a gun at the address. They found two in the house.

When police arrived, Fletcher ran for it, heading into nearby bush and farmland, Senior Sergeant Steve Dickson says.

Police don't believe he's armed, but say he should not be approached.

He's described as male, Pakeha, 170cm tall and of medium build.

He was wearing black clothing and was barefoot when he fled.

Police are asking anyone who sees Fletcher or anyone acting suspiciously in the area to immediately call 111 or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
