Christchurch art venue inspired by a piano

A brand new music performance venue dubbed The Piano has been unveiled in Christchurch.

The building on Armagh St in the central city has been inspired by a grand piano. Its design replicates black and white keys, and uses uneven panelling aimed at creating ideal internal acoustics.

The facility will be open for community use and has an auditorium for large and small performances, drama, dance, music and other productions. The stage can accommodate a choir of up to 120, orchestra of 70, or dance group of 40.
