Drone delivery pizza the future for Dominos

Drone delivery pizza the future for Dominos

If you've ever sat grumbling because your pizza delivery person is late, you'll want to watch this story.

Those days could be a thing of the past because if Dominoes Pizza gets its way, pizzas will be flying out the door and straight to your homes right here in New Zealand.

It means New Zealand will be the first country to commercially enable drone-delivery.

Dominoes promises it's not a gimmick but an important part of the future where roads are not needed. If the company is satisfied with the roll -ut model, then they will expand to hundreds and thousands of drones.

The company have partnered with US technology company, Flertys, and plans to go where no-one else has.

The plan is to start a trial delivery system in Auckland's North Shore as early as the end of next month, but what about the rules and regulations?

Transport Minister Simon Bridges has supported the idea but half of Auckland City is a no-fly-zone for drones which could be a problem. The Civil Aviation Authority says the trial is under consideration and has yet to be approved.

New Zealand may be the guinea pig in this experiment and Story had a taste of the future.
