The Auckland Council's Pollution Response Team are at the scene investigating after a truck carrying a tanker of leachate rolled in south Auckland.

Leachate is the hazardous liquid that has drained from a landfill.

The accident happened around 8.30am on Sunday and the truck driver was trapped in the cab for about an hour, leaving him in a serious condition.

It appears the truck tipped while taking a corner, although the exact details as to why it tipped are not yet known. Wiri Station Road is closed at the intersection.

More to come.
