Rangiora hits new heights with first escalator

Rangiora residents are celebrating the opening of their brand new Farmers department store which is now also the home of the area's first escalator.

The store, originally one level, reopened on Thursday with a second level and an escalator to get there.

Newshub understands this is the first of its kind in the area.

The new store is taller than the previous one (Emma Cropper / Newshub.)

It's not the first novelty in the township, with Rangiora also getting its first set of traffic lights earlier this year.

The Farmers building closed in 2012 and wasn't demolished until two years later.

It has reopened on the same site, with a Whitcoulls, Pascoes, Specsavers and a sushi shop also part of the new building.
