Fire at Canterbury's Big Ben range

A scrub fire has broken out in Canterbury, near Methven, with reports a small plane may have crashed turning out to be incorrect.

The fire service has confirmed two Department of Conservation helicopters are in the air to investigate the blaze.

"We have got a fire burning of the south side of the Big Ben range," southern communications shift manager Andrew Norris told Newshub.

"There are no reports of any missing aircraft and nothing's been sighted at the site," says Mr Norris.
