Christchurch police have arrested a man who didn't show up to his sentencing for shining a laser pointer at an aircraft earlier this year.

Tane Hemopo, 38, was set to be sentenced on Wednesday on two counts of endangering safety after pointing the laser at a Virgin Airlines flight with 121 passengers on board on April 5, 2016.

Police arrested Hemopo in the Christchurch CBD on Thursday morning and he's been remanded in custody.

Hemopo's next appearance for sentencing is scheduled for October 17 via video-link.
