Man flees court, knocks out cop

Police are looking for a dangerous man who jumped from the Lower Hutt court dock and knocked out a police officer as he fled.

Mohi Sabbath, 23, is facing charges of possession of an offensive weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and assault.

He was in the Lower Hutt District Court on Monday afternoon when he made his escape.

Police say he ran out of the courtroom around 3:50pm with the police prosecutor making chase.

The prosecutor was assaulted and knocked unconscious, and has been taken to hospital for observation.

Police were sent to the scene, but they couldn't find Sabbath.

They warn Sabbath is considered dangerous and shouldn't be approached.
