Taxidermy cat purse goes for hundreds

A controversial purse made from the corpse of a feral cat has sold on Trade Me for $545.

Bidding kicked into high-speed on Wednesday night, after the reserve was dropped from $1400 to just $1.

Christchurch taxidermist Claire Third argues the roadkill accessory is all about respect for animals.

"Instead of throwing it in a hole, I'm making the best of what I can do with it. Other people might say, you could go a step further and eat it. Not that I would eat a cat."

While it's copped some flak from SAFE, it's clearly not a problem for a fashionista who's just picked up a bargain.
