Bus passengers in a small West Coast town will be hoping it doesn't rain for the next couple of days after an entire bus shelter was stolen.

Police have been left puzzled by what they're calling a "unique" theft, which happened on Torea Street in Granity.

Building work was being completed in the area and police believe the shelter could have been stolen any time between June and August.

They are now appealing to the public for help.

"It is highly likely someone knows where the shelter is due to it being a unique item to take."

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local police station or, if they wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
