Two horses have been killed after being struck by an SUV on Great South Road in Drury, South Auckland.
Police say the horses were hit at around 5:30am on Saturday after escaping from a nearby paddock.
A third horse also escaped, but was not injured.
Police confirmed no people were hurt in the accident and that the SUV stopped at the scene.

Witness Michaela Guy told Newshub she saw the horses on her drive to work this morning.
"There was glass all over one side of the road... The horses didn't have saddles on them so I wasn't sure if people were riding the horses when they were hit.
"The horses had obviously been there for quite a while because there was a lot of blood running down into the ditch," she said.
Police say there is no disruption to traffic.
