Students from a high-school in Hamilton have been sent home after being evacuated by police on Thursday morning.

Hillcrest High School was evacuated after a threatening note was found.

Under instruction from police, the school is treating the note as a "credible bomb threat". A specialised police bomb search team arrived at the school to conduct a search.

A year 13 student has commented on the school's Facebook post and said: "There was a bomb threat written in one of the toilets, we are all on the field and safe, a bomb search squad are coming."
