There's more trouble for New Zealand Rugby, with reports of a player facing a sex charge.
Police have confirmed a 24-year-old man was arrested on October 2, and charged with assault with intent to commit rape.
There are allegations a rugby player was involved following a game in Poverty Bay, Gisborne, but police could not confirm this.
Mid-Canterbury played East Coast the day before in a Heartland Championship match, and it's understood the arrested man is a member of the Mid-Canterbury squad.
Newshub approached a senior member of the Ashburton-based team on Wednesday evening however he refused to comment on the matter.
Police say they're not in a position to name the person.
The accused is set to appear in Gisborne District Court later this month.
