A powerful earthquake that hit northern Japan has dredged up memories of the devastating tsunami that struck the same region in 2011.
It comes a week after New Zealand had its own 7.8 magnitude jolt, causing extensive damage to the area around Kaikoura, and aftershocks continue to rattle nerves.
So is there any connection between these two major seismic events?
