Boy in hospital after scooter accident

A 12-year-old boy has been taken to Auckland's Starship Hospital in a serious condition after being hit by a vehicle while he was on a scooter.

Police says early indications are that the boy was riding down a steep road in Northcross on Thursday when he lost control and went into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

The incident happened on Cottam Grove and Topless Drive and police were alerted around 3.40pm.

The police serious crash unit is investigating.
