Kaikoura, day three: Getting people out and water in

It's been another tough day for the people of Kaikoura, with Canterbury's Public Health Officer on Tuesday telling Story the town had just 24 hours left until it would run out of water.

Since then, locals, aid workers and a fleet of helicopters have worked around the clock to avert another disaster.

Residents have been going to their own lengths to preserve water and keep everyone healthy.

It's been three days since the earthquake and there is still no running water. That means no toilets flushing and nothing to drink aside from bottled water.

The priorities have been to get people out and get water in.

Story spent the day in Kaikoura as the clock ticked down.
