Man faces charges after Auckland house fire

A 49-year-old North Shore man has been charged with making and supplying methamphetamine after a fire in Milford on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to a house on Inga Road at 5.40pm after smoke was seen coming out of the garage.

The man has also been charged with causing criminal nuisance.

Police at the scene and a member of the public who tried to help put out the fire had to be decontaminated.

The man, who tried to flee when police arrived, will have a bedside hearing at Middlemore Hospital, where he is being treated for burns.
