While the rest of New Zealand may be preparing to dust off the barbeques and bikinis, Queenstown residents have woken up to a fresh dumping of snow along the Crown Range.
The mountain area had snow down to 600m overnight.
Claire Flynn from MetService said a snowfall so close to the start of summer does happen occasionally, but "it's still not something you' d expect every year".

Leila Jover from activity company Queenstown Combos said she was "definitely surprised" by the weather, but it was business as usual for adrenaline junkies. Bungee-jumping and jet-boating won't be affected, she said.

A spokesperson from Queenstown iSite said snow so soon after temperatures had reached the high 20s was surprising and exciting.
She said tourists planning on hiking should be wary as there is snow on the tracks, but temperatures are expected to rise again today.
