Animals are known to get spooked around Guy Fawkes night - but seals aren't usually the ones freaked out by all the flashes and loud noises.
That changed on Tuesday night after a frightened seal attempted to cross a busy four-lane road in Dunedin after being disturbed by fire crackers.
After somehow successfully crossing, the seal took a rest on the warm tarmac before being coaxed back to the water's edge by police and a Department of Conservation worker.
The same seal had been spotted sunbathing next to Portsmouth Dr just a few weeks ago.
