It was a quiet night in Wellington, when the earthquake struck - and nothing was safe from its power.
CCTV footage shows massive cranes and vehicles being shaken like children's toys at Titan Crane in Wellington.
The cranes may weigh up to 140 tonnes - but this wasn't enough to stop them bouncing around as the earth moved.
Lights flashed as the vehicles were violently jolted from side to side.
Many vehicles will be needed in coming days as the earthquake cleanup begins. However, their operators won't forget the night the quake struck - and the earth moved the machinery.
