A former Canterbury primary school teacher has been sentenced to nine years and three months prison for indecently assaulting a pupil at his school.
Michael Hogan admitted to 10 charges of indecent assault and sexual violation of a teenage boy in Southland in the early 90s in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday.
The Crown says the 54-year-old groomed his victim and abused his trust while working as a teacher.
The Defence says Hogan accepts his victim was vulnerable and the shame of his offending has played on his mind every day.
Hogan has also been ordered to pay $15,000 in emotional harm reparation to the victim.
