Military veteran robbed, medals stolen in Onehunga

Police say the medals are of "extreme sentimental and historic value" (NZ Police / supplied)

Several service medals have been stolen from a military veteran in Auckland's Onehunga on Sunday morning.

He had served nearly a quarter of a century in the British military, including 14 years under the British SAS.

The medals were stolen from the Church St property at around 10:45am on Sunday, along with a sapphire ring and necklace and a Breitling watch with a rubber wristband.

A gold-coloured pocket watch given to the man during his military career, which has his name, rank and service number engraved on it, was also taken.

(NZ Police / supplied)

Police say the medals are of "extreme sentimental and historic value" and ask anyone who recognises them, or knows where they are, to speak to police.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Constable Daniel Ross, either by calling (04) 212 3534 or via email. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
