Nelson Police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old man in relation to a stabbing incident on Friday evening.
Two men are reported to have become involved in an altercation at around last night, near Tahunanui Beach in Nelson.
A woman running in the area was approached by one of the men and stabbed in the leg with a large knife. Police say she was not known to either of the men.
The woman received treatment in hospital and is said to be very traumatised.
Police thanked the members of the public who came to the woman's aid and helped identify the alleged offender, who was arrested a short time later.
The man is due to appear in Nelson District Court on serious assault charges on Saturday.
