The search for a missing swimmer at Piha Beach has resumed Monday morning, thanks to a low tide.

The swimmer, a man from Congo, was one of three who got into trouble at Piha in west Auckland on Saturday evening.

One escaped and raised the alarm, one was rescued, but the last swimmer is still missing, presumed drowned. He got caught in a rip near Lion Rock.

The search was suspended on Sunday due to rough weather.

Piha Surf Club president Peter Brown told Newshub yesterday that conditions at Piha beach have been worse than usual recently.
