Police are seeking help from the public to located a man they say may be trying to hitchhike to Ashburton.
Raymond Hemi, 23, was last seen in Rangiora at around 12pm on Saturday.
He is described as 170cm tall, with a solid build, and has long hair and is unshaven.
He was last seen wearing blue jeans and no shoes or socks.
Police say Hemi should not be approached. Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police on 111.
