A woman has been impaled on a fence balustrade outside Galbraith's Alehouse in Eden Terrace.
A team of firefighters were trying to free the woman, who appeared to have a spike impaled through her leg.
Fire service shift inspector Jaron Phillips said initial reports from the scene are that the woman is a moderate condition.
A witness at the scene said she appeared calm, possibly in a state of shock.
