A swing and a miss for Wellington man

A 52-year-old Wellington man who turned up to court on Monday may have woken on the wrong side of the bed.

Upon his arrival at court, a Newshub cameraman caught the moment the man tried to take a swing at a photographer.

David Francis Johns, 52, pleaded guilty to two charges relating to tyre slashings in the suburb of Miramar, which he admitted he carried out with a sharpened screw driver.

Police say he may have damaged more than 300 vehicles.

Johns said he was motivated by what he perceived as inaction by the Wellington City Council in dealing with air travellers taking up un-metered Miramar car parks for days at a time.
