The Armed Offenders Squad has been called out to a street in Hamilton on Sunday night.
Cordons are in place on Maitland St, Frankton, after the callout at around 6pm after reports a man was seen with a firearm.
A local resident told the New Zealand Herald police dogs are also at the scene.
"There's snipers on every corner, it's pretty intense," he said.
