The southern motorway southbound is slowly easing after it was gridlocked between the city and Manukau. A car fire at Papakura caused significant delays and no one was injured.

Traffic is heavy southbound from Highbrook Drive after a truck break down.

For those heading north, Auckland to Wellsford is taking up to two hours.

The Transport Agency's Auckland Highway Manager Brett Gliddon said Friday traffic will be heavy until about 8pm.

For travellers heading back to Auckland on Monday, the busiest times are from 12pm through till the early evening.
