Dozens of Gore residents woke up on Tuesday morning with smashed car windows and belongings stolen, after a spate of car burglaries overnight from Monday.

Police are looking for the thieves who managed to break into about 20 vehicles on several streets in the Southland township.

A large number of personal belongings and money were taken from the vehicles parked on roads and private properties, police say.

The areas hit were: Naumai St, Coutts Rd, Pomona St, Irving St, Albany St, Preston St, Gorton St, Oldham St, Ashton St, River Tce, Waverly St, Wentworth St and Walker Cr.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen people acting suspiciously on these streets between 11pm Monday and 6am Tuesday.

People should watch out for stolen property that might have been stashed in gardens or along the street, police say.

If anyone has information or they find possibly stolen property they can contact Gore police on 03 203 9300, or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
