Man impaled by fence in Auckland crash

A young man is in Auckland Hospital in a critical condition after being impaled in a car crash in rural south Auckland.

Emergency services were called to Kidd Rd in Karaka at around 4:50pm on Monday afternoon. 

A fire service spokesman said the 21-year-old man had been impaled by a fence during the crash. The Westpac Auckland Rescue Helicopter airlifted the man from the scene.
