A man who went missing at Lake Rotoiti, northeast of Lake Rotorua, has been found dead.
Search and rescue volunteers recovered Colin McCormick's body shortly before 7am on Thursday.
The 48-year-old was reported missing eight days ago after his hat was blown into the water. He jumped off the boat and his lifejacket came off.
His partner and son, still on the boat, didn't know how to operate it to rescue him.
Wind blew them further apart, and a rope they had onboard couldn't reach him.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
