A section of State Highway 1 between Christchurch and Kaikoura has been reopened after a landslip closed a part of the highway.
The slip occurred between Goose bay and Peketa overnight and was expected to closed the road for the day.
Motorists have been using the inland route to Waiau along SH7 back onto SH1 while delays were in place.
