A person has been reported missing in the water at a beach near Dunedin Friday morning.
Authorities were alerted to the incident at 10:40am at Brighton Beach south of Dunedin. The person is described as having a small build and was wearing loose black clothing.
Police, Surf Lifesaving and a helicopter are on scene searching for the missing person.
Surf lifesavers carried out a search in the area where the person was last seen, however they had to return to shore because of bad sea conditions.
Land search and rescue are combing the nearby coast for any signs of the person.
