Police are seeking the driver of a car who may have witnessed a hit-and-run on January 1 in Christchurch at about 1:40am.

A silver or white station wagon is said to have stopped suddenly, reversed, and drove on to the footpath where three people were walking.

The driver hit one man who was on a bicycle, throwing him several metres on Prestons Road.

The bicycle was dragged underneath the car for 100m.

Police would like to hear from the driver of a car that was travelling the other way and did a u-turn and followed the station wagon.
