A large scrub fire in central Auckland broke out early this morning and temporarily closed a railway line.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at bush-clad gully either side of the eastern rail corridor at Meadowbank around 3am.

The eastern line was closed to trains and power was cut to the area as firefighters tackled the blaze.

Trains have now resumed running on the line and power has since been restored.

Five appliances were called to the blaze and the incident is being treated as suspicious.
