Skateboard hit-and-run suspect appears in court

A 33-year-old man has appeared in a west Auckland court after being charged with dangerous driving causing the death of a 16-year-old skateboarder.

He entered no plea and was denied bail. 

The man will be remanded in custody until his next appearance in the Waitakere District Court on February 7.

He is a Chinese national but has been a resident of New Zealand for the past eight and a half years.

Avondale College student Jacob Pakura was killed early on Sunday morning when he was hit by a vehicle on Rua Rd in the suburb of Glen Eden.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday evening following information provided to police by the public.

A funeral service for Jacob Pakura will be held in the main chapel of the Morrison Funeral Home in Henderson on Thursday at midday.
