A set of three nostalgic McDonald's playground items has netted a tidy sum on Trade Me.

The Chief Big Mac climber, Mayor McCheese roundabout and Hamburglar swings were sold for $11,000 to campground manager Tony Ritchie.

Mr Ritchie told Fairfax he will erect the play items at Lake Ruataniwha Holiday Park, four kilometres south of Twizel.

He already owns two pieces of retro McDonald's playground equipment, so the three new items will complement his set.

"I already had the Hamburglar swing and jail, but I needed the roundabout to complete the set," he told Fairfax.

"We're just a family camp and really into making the kids happy. It's amazing how many people that pull into the camp, open their cameras and take a photo - all the 35- to 40-year-olds remember them from the original McDonald's."

The reserve on the listing was $3000 for all three items, so the seller will likely be more than happy with the sale.
