An 11-year-old magician is launching his spectacular career with a magic show to raise money for a toddler with a rare disease.

When Floyd Langdon of Devonport heard that local three-year-old David Westwood was suffering from a rare disease, he wanted to do something to help.

Floyd, a keen magician, asked his parents if he could put on a fundraising show to raise money for David's care.

Three-year-old David suffers from neurofibromatosis type 1 syndrome. After his first stroke at the beginning of last year, he was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease - a rare complication of this syndrome and the only case in NZ.

Floyd's mum Vicki Leopold describes David's parents, who grew up in Devonport and went to the same local school Vauxhall Primary, as "so humble".

"Their family roots in the local community are deeply set," Ms Leopold said.

The community spirit is clear, with local businesses jumping on board to support the fundraiser, including the Vic Theatre, where the shows will be held.

"When a child is sick the community rallies around," Ms Leopold said.

Award-winning professional magician and illusionist Andre Vegas, who featured on NZ's Got Talent, will join Floyd on stage.

Ms Leopold said Floyd has "been madly rehearsing" for the Sunday afternoon shows, with one at 3pm and one at 5pm.

A silent auction has also been launched online to raise money for the toddler, with local artists donated their works, including NZ artist Rob Tucker and street artist 'Component'.
