Assistant dog proves life-changing for Christchurch boy

Eight year old Lachlan has cerebral palsy, global developmental delay, and autism.

Three years ago, his parents Sam and Sinead put him on the waiting list for an assistance dog.

Assistance Dogs New Zealand carefully match their dogs, training them to help with their owner's specific needs.

Three year old Labrador Lady was matched with Lachlan. She gives him physical support when going down steps or changing surface, but she also helps him in big crowds or places that can make him feel anxious.

But above all, Lady has given Lachlan the companionship and confidence to let his personality shine through.

Sam and Sinead Carnahan have been so impressed by the change Lady has made to their family, that they want to pay it forward. They hope to raise $20,000 through a Givealittle page, so that another family can have an assistance dog.
