Auckland showroom to sell $4.5m Aston Martins

February was yet another record-setting month for new car sales in New Zealand, with close to 12,000 vehicles sold.

But it's a couple of record sales that are yet to hit the road that stand out - two $4.5 million Aston Martins.

The showroom that sold them, nicknamed "the little showroom that could",  is not even big enough to fit the whole Aston Martin range, especially when Lamborghinis are fighting for floorspace.

"In market share terms, it's the most successful dealership anywhere in the Aston Martin World," CEO Andy Palmer says.

Mr Palmer is in New Zealand to launch the Vanquish S and inspect what will be the new headquarters for his New Zealand operation, which will be ready in time to deliver the two most expensive new cars ever sold in this country.

Greg Brinck, Aston Martin Auckland general manager, said the cost "is a bit out there, but that's the thing with working with these sort of cars".

Believe it or not, they could have sold more. Mr Palmer says they made 150 of the vehicles, but had more than 600 serious enquiries about the luxury cars.

"We found ourselves in the unusual situation where we had to choose the customer, not the other way around."
