Rescue services are at the scene of a double fatal crash between a car and a truck in Culverden, North Canterbury.
The crash happened at 8:15am on Mouse Point Rd.
Due to the severity of the crash police are still unsure how many people were in the car but it's believed two people in the car have been killed.
The truck driver was uninjured.
Diversions are in place at State Highway 7 and Flintoff Rd and State Highway 7 and Rotherham Rd.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
It's the third accident involving a truck and car in the country in the last 12 hours.
One person was left in a critical condition after a crash near Invercargill just after 9pm on Monday, and one person was killed in a crash on SH2 in north Waikato on Tuesday morning.
