Two people and a dog have been rescued from their sinking boat, after it hit rocks near Tiritiri Matangi Island in the Hauraki Gulf.

Three Coastguard vessels rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call around 8am this morning.

They managed to secure the 34-foot Bayliner, which had taken on more than a metre and a half of water after suffering severe damage to its rudders and hull.

The vessel was towed into Gulf Harbour by two of the Coastguard vessels, arriving around 11am.

It tops off a busy weekend for the Coastguard, with 15 serious jobs yesterday in the northern region alone.
