Mongrel Mob pair incriminated by own CCTV footage

Two men are spending two years each in prison after their own CCTV provided proof they severely beat a man.

Mongrel Mob members Paul "PC" Chadwick and George "Hori" Taite left their 32-year-old victim with fractures to his eye socket, a cut above his eye that required stitches and swelling and bruising to his eyes, nose, face and jaw, Fairfax reports.

Chadwick and Taite both pleaded guilty to charges of injuring with intent in 2016.

The footage was seen in court during the trial for a third man, Michael Howett, who pleaded not guilty to being party to injuring with intent

The victim and his girlfriend organised to be driven to Napier by Howett. Instead, Howett dropped them at Chadwick's home in Flaxmere, Hastings.

The victim told the court he did not want to be taken to Chadwick's house because Chadwick wanted money for damages to his car that were caused while the victim was using it, Fairfax reports. The victim said he knew he would be beaten if taken there.

When he was taken to the property, the victim was told to wait for Chadwick, who then punched the victim. Taite joined him, and they both punched him until he fell to the ground unconscious, Fairfax reports.

Footage recorded by Chadwick's home security system shows the pair punching and kicking their victim at least 10 times.

Taite then handed the victim a cloth to wipe the blood from his face. They then took him to the side of the house, where they hosed him off.

The footage shows Taite returning to the site of the attack with the hose, Janola and a brush. Chadwick holds a small child in his arms as he gives instructions to Taite.

The court heard the victim was told Taite would come after him with a baseball bat if he went to police, Fairfax reports.

Police seized the footage four days after the attack.

A verdict is expected on Howlett's case on Tuesday afternoon.
