Six years on from the quakes, Christchurch's damaged Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament still draws a daily crowd of curious onlookers.
Since the quakes a two metre high fence stands between tourists and their postcard worthy snaps.
That's why the Catholic diocese decided to give visitors a virtual tour of the inside of the Cathedral - through a mobile app.
They just scan their phone over QR codes located all along the fences.
"It takes you in immediately to a 360 degree exploration of the Cathedral as it was before the earthquake damaged things," says Father Rick Loughnan.
The app also shows what the Cathedral looks like inside after the quakes.
Visitors hopping off one of the many tourist busses that stopped outside today were impressed.
"It's amazing. It's amazing what technology can do. To be able to see it now as it looks and as it was - it's fantastic," says tourist Kelly Tregold.
Plans are in place to eventually restore the Cathedral but that won't happen until a new Bishop is appointed.
For now a smart phone app is as close you'll get to the inside of the Cathedral.
