New Zealand Lotto players who use MyLotto's website have been warned about a potential scam targeting them.

An email was sent to players on Wednesday night warning them about nz-lotto.nz, a website that looks very similar to the real website.

"We're aware of a scam website that appears to be tricking MyLotto users into providing account information," the email said.

Lotto NZ's corporate communications manager Emilia Mazur says they aren't sure how many people have been affected.

"[We] are working to have [the website] removed as soon as possible," she says.

"In the meantime, we wanted to remind players to only use our official website when purchasing tickets."

MyLotto say anyone who believe they may have used a fraudulent website should change their password on their MyLotto accounts.

More than 600,000 players nationwide use MyLotto's website.
