CIA lands in Queenstown for spy conference

The world's most powerful security and intelligence decision makers have arrived in Queenstown for a top secret conference at the luxury Millbrook Resort.

The United States' Central Intelligence Agency's Gulfstream Aerospace G-IV made a secret, untracked trip from Wellington at 10am, but didn't touch down until just before 12.

Unusually, the flight, which should have taken 40 minutes for a private plane, took just under two hours to arrive.

It's understood CIA director Mike Pompeo was on board.

Its registration 10-030 gives the CIA's identity away.

An entourage of security personnel in six vehicles met the aircraft, and it is now in a convoy to Milbrook Resort near Arrowtown.

A second Gulfstream G550 is incoming from Hawaii.
