Two men have been sent to jail after being caught possessing thousands of images of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Tauranga man David Frederick Moore, 56, was jailed for two years, with more than 4000 "objectionable pictures or video" on computers seized from his home by Internal Affairs inspectors.
He was caught after the US National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) found he had uploaded some of the material to a social networking website.
On Wednesday he pleaded guilty to four charges of making a copy of an objectionable publication for distribution and one representative charge of possessing objectionable publications.
Napier man Neville Bruce Crockett, 62, was caught with more than 5000 files of child sex abuse on gear at his home after he tried to email pictures of young children being sexually abused.
He also tried to hide a USB drive during the search and hid his computer activity with a number of applications, which included having visited two child sex abuse website which have since been shut down by the FBI.
Crockett was jailed for four-and-a-half years on Thursday, after pleading guilty to two representative charges of possessing objectionable publications, seven of making a copy for distribution and one charge of obstruction.
In both cases, Internal Affairs were tipped off by US authorities and Internal Affairs' Censorship Compliance Manager Stephen Waugh says international co-operation is an important part of their work.
"We work towards ensuring our community is safe from this material and its effects, material that always represents abuse to a child victim," he said.
"This is not a victimless crime."
