Police are investigating the cause of the house fire in the Waikato town of Tirau where one person died.
The Criminal Investigation Branch were making enquiries alongside the fire service and the scene was under guard, police said in a statement.
Fire crews were called to the Little Street property just after 3.30am on Monday.
Crews from Tirau, Putaruru, Matamata and Rotorua were needed to extinguish the blaze.
