Crash teen dies after being released from hospital

A teenager who was released from hospital following a car accident on Sunday night later died. 

Police are calling for witnesses to the crash in Kaitaia, involving a stolen car at about 11:30pm. They were called to the scene on Bonnetts Rd; however say an unknown number of offenders fled before they arrived. 

A 13-year-old boy was found injured at the scene and taken to Kaitaia hospital by ambulance. 

"He was discharged from hospital the next morning, and taken to an address where he died," says Inspector Kevin Burke. 

"A post mortem has been completed and toxicology results have not been received."

Investigations are ongoing, and police are appealing to any witnesses who may have seen a white 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara registration DDR570, in the area on Sunday night.
